TOM ROBINSON, Songwriter and Broadcaster
Tom Robinson (b.1950) first became known in the 1970s as a musician and LGBT activist with the Top 20 hits 2-4-6-8 Motorway and Glad To Be Gay. With the Tom Robinson Band he was also a prominent supporter of Rock Against Racism and Amnesty International.
With various bands he recorded 19 albums between 1975 and 2001 and collaborated as a songwriter with Elton John, Peter Gabriel and Dan Hartman. He also had a Top 20 hit as a solo artist in 1983
with War Baby.
His first radio show was for the BBC World Service in 1987 and he has since hosted programmes on BBC Radios 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Live and most recently 6 Music where he has worked full-time since 2002.
He lives in South London with his wife and two children. |
